Air Traffic Control [ATC] Training Simulator

Product Description

This system places the trainee air traffic controller in a virtual world that closely resembles a real ATC environment. The virtual world includes a landscape, an airport, aircraft, ground vehicles and radars. Several entities share the virtual world by means of a computer network. The entities are: a. Trainee air traffic controller (in the virtual control tower), b. Pilot/s (in aircraft simulator/s), c. Radar (area control or approach control positions), d. Driver/s (driving ground vehicle/s) and e. The instructor (positioned at any point in the virtual world). When the virtual aircraft approaches (or departs from) the virtual airport, the trainee controller will see and hear it. The trainee controller can communicate with the pilot exactly as in a real scenario.

The virtual 5dt corporate jet (airbus a320) taking off from Cape Town international airport. Airport terminal buildings and the control tower can be seen in the background.
Virtual Aircraft Take-off - View of the Terminal Buildings and Tower
This view shows the runway and some terminal buildings in the background. The viewpoint can be switched between entities (e.g. from the aircraft to the control tower), and it can also be navigated around the selected entity. the ocean (false bay) can be seen in the background. An interesting perspective may be achieved by comparing this image with the airspace visualizer image 'airspace control zones and beacons (2)', that shows the beacons and glide slopes of cape town international airport, along with some airspace control zones.
Virtual Aircraft Take-off - View of the Runway
The system is designed for day and night operation. This image shows an aircraft taking off early in the morning (sunrise). A second aircraft is waiting for take-off clearance at the end of the runway. The position of the sun, moon and 3,000+ stars are shown in accordance with the position of the airport as well as the time of day.
Virtual Aircraft Take-off - Early Morning View
This image shows the view from the tower. The outside view may be displayed on projector screens (1 to 9 screens), giving different fields of view for the trainee air traffic controller. The instruments may be real instruments or virtual instruments, as shown in this image. using the 5dt virtual binoculars, the trainee may obtain a magnified view of the aircraft and runway.

History ribbons may be used to track the movement of entities through space. In this case the history ribbon shows how the aircraft accelerated on the runway and then took off. The arrow-indexes on the ribbon are spaced a specific time apart, so that one may get an idea of the acceleration and relative movement of the aircraft.
